Sylvie Besson
Founder and instructor of the school
The Mermaid did not arrive in Sylvie's world by chance, she was born in one of her shows, in 2001 in Lausanne.
Sylvie began artistic (synchronized) swimming at the age of 9 with the arrival of this sport in French-speaking Switzerland, brought in particular by her mother.
Motivated by the first competitions in French-speaking Switzerland around the age of 12, she continued training and progressed quickly, joining the French-speaking team and then the Swiss executives.
It was also around the age of 12 that she invented her first choreography, a passion that would never leave her. Sylvie was a multiple champion in French-speaking Switzerland.
Assistant coach from the age of 14, she stopped competing at 18 to coach teams.
At 24, lacking the opportunity to practice her passionate sport, Sylvie created the aquatic performance troupe “Aquarelle”.
She chooses the music, invents, trains and swims all the choreographies.
Over the next 20 years, the performances continued and evolved towards a more artistic and theatrical dimension.
In 2001, she put on her first “big” show at the Mon-Repos swimming pool in Lausanne. In this setting, a dolphin is symbolised by a costume that quickly transforms into… a mermaid!
In 2005, she created her first mermaid costume, from A to Z, and performed in Switzerland and various European countries.
In 2015, mermaids were starting to gain popularity. Sylvie decided to launch a mermaid school, based on her experience of shows with her fish tail.
With the help of his troupe members, the basis of the project was created. The first course took place in November 2015 in Etoy.
The content and form of the courses has evolved enormously in the following years. To this day, Sylvie still regularly brings her creative ideas… to the delight of the mermaids and dolphins (because we also sometimes have boys)
